A VOLUNTEERING programme for young people in Bucks has been relaunched for this year.

Around fifteen 16-17 year olds are to be given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in the National Citizen Service, a 4-week community-based programme, supported by Wycombe Youth Action (WYA).

The programme aims to help build life skills for work and take on new challenges with a mixture of residential workshops and exciting outdoor activities such as archery and raft building. The programme leads up to social action project to benefit the community, completely devised and developed by participants.

First launched in 2010, participants will receive a certificate signed by the programme’s pioneer, PM David Cameron and will be invited to join the NCS Futures and Alumni programme which holds training sessions and reunion events.

Marvin Taylor, local NCS co-ordinator says: ’This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, develop personal skills and give something back to your local community. The programme also provides volunteering opportunities for more experienced young people to develop their mentoring skills."

High Wycombe 2012 participant, Lizzie said: "It was really good. I was able to make friends and I did things that I didn’t think I could do’.
