A DELIVERY driver was assaulted this morning by masked robbers at Hazlemere Crossroads.

Police said they were called to Martin McColl's Newsagents at 7.52am to reports that two to three men, with their faces covered, had assaulted a delivery driver.

Items were then stolen from the driver's van, thought to be cigarettes, before the men drove away in a blue or grey Subaru in the direction of Penn.

One of the offenders is described as a black man wearing a grey hoodie.

The other is described as a white man with a blue scarf over his face.

The delivery driver was injured in the assault and has been taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Part of the area has been cordoned off and forensics experts are examining the scene.

Detective Sergeant Holly Cannon said: "This was a busy time on a busy road. We expect there would have been people nearby who would have seen something.

"If you saw the incident or the car driving away from the scene please contact police on 101."
