Amateur artist turns curry house into exhibition
AN ARTIST from Wooburn Green has found an unlikely outlet for her work, after her favourite curry house decided to display her paintings in its restaurant.
Mary Bate, who dines regularly at Mr India in Loudwater, got chatting to manager Kazi Islam about her work during a meal earlier this year.
After seeing the pieces for himself, he agreed to place a selection of her abstract works on the walls of the London Road eatery for customers to enjoy.
He said: “Customers really seem to like the art, and a lot of them ask us who the artist is and whether they are for sale.
“It would be really good to have more up. They are very bright and colourful and people like to see change in the restaurant.”
Mary, who has been painting since 2000, has already had solo exhibitions at the Wycombe Swan and at Aylesbury’s Queens Park Arts Centre.
She currently has three pieces at Mr India, including textured work ‘Hidden Time’, and plans to exhibit more in the coming months.
And the part-time artist is now offering her work for sale, with potential buyers able to snap up the art they see while eating their poppadums.
She said: “It’s great that Kazi agreed to put my work up, I see this as just the beginning really, “My pieces take quite a while to produce so the priority now is working on more to display in the restaurant.”
Mary’s pieces can also be found on display at the Wooburn Club in Wooburn Green.
