Fearless pensioner to plunge from sky
7:40am Thursday 15th August 2013 in News
A FEARLESS pensioner has pledged to plunge from the skies to help his old sports club.
Brian Standring will celebrate his 75th birthday by jumping 15,000 feet out of a plane for Marlow Sports Club.
Mr Standring, a founder member of Marlow Striders, who has moved to the Devon area, is aiming to raise £5,000 with the sky dive for the Pound Lane based outfit.
Last month the Club reached the fantastic milestone of £500,000 towards their £1.2 million target, which was the cost of buying the land and building the all-weather pitch.
The jump will take place on August 31 in Devon.
Mr Standring said: "I am really looking forward to celebrating my 75th birthday in style and doing something I have never done before.
"I really want to help improve the facilities and ensure the green space is kept for future generations in the town, by helping to raise funds for the club."
Fundraiser for Marlow Sports Club Emma Hellewell said: "We are so grateful to have the support of individuals who take on amazing challenges for the club.
"It not only gives our fundraising efforts a terrific boost but raises awareness of the club and the great facilities we have to offer to the whole community, that we will benefit hugely from."
The club purchased the freehold and established charitable status in the spring of 2011.
The Board of trustees have been opening up the club for wider community use and around 2,000 people from the area are using the ground - of which 1,400 are youngsters.
