Olivia's family hope to double fundraising total
THE parents of a schoolgirl who died from asthma hope future fundraising events held in her memory raise even more money for charity.
A family fun day held on the Rye on Sunday, August 11 in memory of eight-year-old Olivia Chandler raised a total of £1,214.88, which will be evenly split between the Asthma UK and Child Bereavement UK charities.
It beats the fundraising total from a similar event last year - but her parents Darren and Teresa hope more events in the future will be able to raise over £1,000 for each charity.
Mr Chandler said: "It's a hope for the future - it would be nice to have £1,000 each for both of them from the fun day.
"I'm happy to beat last year's total. It was a good day. Everyone I spoke to seemed to enjoy it."
Around 800 people attended the fun day held in tribute to Olivia, who died following an asthma attack at Ash Hill Primary School in September 2010.
Olivia's family said they may try to organise another charity fundraising event in time for Christmas, while a dinner and dance event is planned for next year.
A third fun day on the Rye is pencilled in for 2015 to mark the fifth anniversary of Olivia's passing.
Mr Chandler said: "We're looking at the next one being in a couple of years' time and doing a weekend one. That's just on pen and paper at the moment."
