Bourne End community pub celebrates re-launch
DRINKERS at Bourne End’s very own community pub celebrated a new era with a re-launch party last weekend, including the unveiling of the new pub sign.
Shareholders, regulars and visitors helped toast last month’s arrival of new full-time Garibaldi tenants Christine Clarke and Steve Alexander with a barbeque and live music on Friday.
And the new sign was officially revealed to the gathered partygoers by Red Gallagher, one of the Garibaldi directors who has championed the project.
The party marked a year since the beginning of a campaign to save the Hedsor Road pub after previous owner Punch Taverns announced it could not afford to keep the Garibaldi open.
Jon Rowe, a shareholder and member of the campaign team, said: "It was a great night and we were all really pleased with the turnout.
"There must have been a hundred people there and luckily the rain held off because we wouldn’t have fitted everyone inside!
"People seem to like the new sign, but like any piece of art, everyone has their own opinions. It is very striking when you first see it outside.
"Steve and Christine were busy all night, but I’m sure they were very pleased to have the pub so full."
With the contract on the premises signed in February and new tenants now in place, shareholders now plan to overhaul the ladies and gents toilets with help from funds already raised.
There are also a small number of shares still available, with holders hopeful they can sell the rest to raise even more towards the upkeep of the venture.
The next Garibaldi event sees Mike and Dave's family-friendly quiz night return on August 31 from 8pm.
