Marlow coach to run 46 hour 105 mile mountain race
THE most epic mountain run race in Europe, which lasts up to 46 hours, is the challenge facing the coach of a Marlow athletics group.
Les Lepper, head running coach at Marlow Striders, is taking on a field of the best skyrunners on the planet for Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc.
Less than half complete 105 mile mountain trail course, with 31,500ft of ascent, around the Mont-Blanc massif, passing through France, Italy and Switzerland en-route.
The event is described as skyrunning, which means mountain running that takes competitors above 6,500ft.
Twelve times London Marathon runner Les, 55, from Maidenhead, said this will be his hardest ever challenge.
It starts on Friday.
He said: “I started skyrunning events two years ago, and I’m hooked. I never really liked running uphill, but I find the lure of the high mountains irresistible.”
Dawn Segrue, Club Chair Person of Marlow Striders, said: “Many of us prefer a gentle jog in the Chilterns, but we all wish Les a brilliant race, and a triumphant finish.”
Les lost his father to cancer three years ago, and Cancer Research UK was his dad’s chosen charity. Support him at: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/leslepper and visit www.marlowstriders.co.uk for more on the club.
