Beaconsfield mobile skatepark fun amid calls for permanent site
SKATEBOARDERS in Beaconsfield were given a taste of what a permanent skatepark in the town could offer when mobile ramps came to the Beacon Sports Centre this week.
The South Bucks District Council ‘Skate Weekz’ project sees a mobile course touring the district over the school holidays, with Beaconsfield’s turn starting on Monday.
Youngsters have the chance to try out the ramps on scooters, skateboards and BMXs as calls for a permanent park grow ever louder.
Progress on the plan stalled in June following a disagreement among Beaconsfield town councillors over the best location to build the mooted course.
Holtspur Way Recreation Ground was tipped as the preferred site by a council-led working group, but councillors asked for two other locations to be investigated first.
Independent campaigners The Beaconsfield Skatepark Group have now launched a consultation to determine the level of public support for the project at Holtspur Way.
The group hopes to generate enough money for the park through fundraising and grants, rather than relying on council money.
After two consultation meetings last week, residents can still have their say when the group pops up again in front of the Town Hall on Penn Road on Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
The ‘Skate Weekz’ ramps will remain at Holtspur Way Recreation Ground until Monday, and costs £4 per day, which includes competitions, prizes, tuition and music as well as free time on the ramps.
