New outdoor fitness gym installed in Flackwell Heath
FITNESS enthusiasts in Flackwell Heath can now take advantage of outdoor gym equipment installed in the village this week.
The five-piece gym, which includes sit up and dips bars and a skiing workout station, is sited on Straight Bit Recreation Ground.
It has been provided thanks to a £5000 grant from the National Lottery Awards For All scheme, which was secured by Flackwell Heath Residents’ Association (FHRA).
The money was granted early this year, with a deadline of October for the equipment to be installed, after which the money would have had to be returned.
But a delay while the project was co-ordinated with Chepping Wycombe Parish Council meant the gym was delayed until now.
Emma Smith, FHRA chair, said: "Leisure facilities are in much need in the village for all ages. We are delighted that the fitness equipment has now been installed. It is a great example of our community working together.
“I would particularly like to thank former Chair of FHRA Cllr Pam Mannering for her stoic commitment to realising this project.
“Without Pam's determination and successful funding application to the Big Lottery Fund the fitness equipment would not be in place. We hope it will be used freely by all ages to advance physical education, wellbeing and fun!"
Plans for a new children’s playground for the recreation ground are also well underway, with parish councillors collecting residents’ feedback over the summer.
The new playground, which will replace the current one, is currently scheduled to be be installed next spring, with parish council funds already earmarked for the project.
