Young cyclists complete charity challenge
TWO friends were back at school this week after cycling more than 250 miles for charity.
Ben Shepherd and James McIntyre swapped school desks for the saddle as they cycled from London to Paris over four days last week.
After covering 73 miles on day one of their quest, the Dr Challoners Grammar School pupils then cycled 68 miles on days two and three before a relatively easy 52 mile cycle into the French capital on Wednesday, August 28.
They finished up underneath the Eiffel Tower as they completed their 261 mile cycling challenge on time.
Ben managed to raise more than £1,000 for the Rope project, which supports the Good Hope School in Uganda.
The money raised is enough to pay for all 71 of the Kampala school's pupils to be able to attend for a whole month, providing funds for uniform, stationary, teachers' salaries and school meals.
James - whose mum Sarah accompanied the boys in a support vehicle - raised money for the Brain Tumour Charity.
Donations are still being accepted on both of the boys' online fundraising pages. To donate to Ben go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/BenShepherd_Rope and to support James go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/jamesmcintyre.cycling.
