New-look Chiltern trains get first run out
THE first new-look Chiltern Railways train makes it maiden journey today as a major investment programme kicked in.
The company, which operates the rail franchise through Bucks, is taking part in a £5.3million upgrade of its rolling stock.
As part of that the new look trains - which match Chiltern Railways' silver inter-cty trains - get their first run on the tracks today.
Rob Brighouse, Managing Director of Chiltern Railways, said: "As rail plays a vital role in the economic prosperity of the country, we’re constantly looking at ways to improve the service.
"The upgrade to an entire fleet of our trains will create a comfortable and modern space on a par with our popular silver trains. What’s more, we’re proud that we have been able to make these significant improvements without recourse to the taxpayer."
A rolling programme will see the entire fleet of Clubman trains updated by 2016.
Chiltern Railways are also behind plans to construct a new rail route between Oxford and London Marylebone, with work set to begin shortly.
