New group at the helm of Wycombe Mosque Trust
A NEW group is at the helm of a Wycombe Islamic organisation following its biennial elections.
The opposition Thara group seized control of the Wycombe Islamic Mission and Mosque Trust yesterday.
Thousands of Muslims went to the polls and elected all 25 standing Thara candidates, sweeping aside the ruling Seva party.
The Thara group told the BFP that a new chairman would be selected in the coming days when the committee meets for the first time.
The High Court settled a dispute between the two factions in 2011 after a long running row about how committee members were selected.
Honor Judge David Cooke ruled that a constitution drawn up in 2001 to enable members to elect a management committee was legally binding.
Management committee elections are now held every two years.
