A fond farewell to helpful milkman
A MILKMAN who served Little Kingshill for 43 years was given a well deserved party to celebrate his retirement.
Derek Neale worked for 50 years at Wren Davis, Prestwood, and had been delivering milk in Little Kingshill for 43 years.
At The Full Moon in Little Kingshill about 100 residents wished him luck in his retirement last Wednesday, after raising money for a leaving present and a meal for Derek and his wife.
Des Booker said: "He was a very helpful person and he kept an eye out for a lot of old people and did jobs for them.
"Everybody appreciated him doing the rounds."
He said it was a great send-off for Derek.
Another resident, Elaine Bonner, said: "He has sat in my kitchen over a cup of tea, covered in snow, soaking wet or completely frozen, and told me how he has rescued old ladies who fallen down, and comforted others suffering bereavement. He has had vandals threaten him and steal milk, and last January he fell over on a steep hill and banged his head.
"Villagers in Little Kingshill have continued ordering milk just to see his friendly face in the morning.
"We will miss him, and all wish him a happy and well deserved retirement."
