DIGNITARIES jumped behind the controls of motorised wheelchairs for a charity race around an obstacle course in High Wycombe.
The Mayor of High Wycombe Cllr Trevor Snaith and his Marlow counterpart, Cllr Suzanne Brown, led off the runners and riders in the Mayorability Mayhem fundraiser last week.
The ‘drivers’ were tasked with collecting Tesco goods from various points around the tricky track on Frogmoor in the quickest time in an event to raise money and awareness about Shopmobility.
Mayor Snaith, whose appeal will also benefit from the money raised, said: “It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it despite not winning – I think others mastered the technique better than we did.
“But it raises the profile of Shobmobility in the town and also the issues people who use the charity face when they’re out shopping in the town.”
Tesco High Wycombe co-ordinated the event. Fiona Martin, a manager at the Eden-based shop, said: “It was a great success and has really raised the public awareness of the problems people have when trying to negotiate around shops while in a power chair or Shopmobility scooter.
“We would like to thank everyone who took part and helped to arrange the event, especially the Mayor’s Parlour and The Woodland Trust.”
