Runners out in force for Wooburn 10k race
THE LUSH surroundings of Wooburn were transformed into a running track on Sunday for the annual 10k race.
Limbering up for the gruelling run, 300 people came from miles around to take part in the tradition and were greeted by warm sunny conditions for the task.
The men’s race was won by Mathew Davenport in a time of 34 minutes, 13 seconds, with women’s winner Sarah Caulfield hot on his heels to take the women’s crown in 46 minutes, 26 seconds.
There was also a children’s route over 3 kilometres, with fastest boy Ben Sendall crossing the line in 38 minutes, 44 seconds and Phoebe Boyd doing it for the girls in 58 minutes, 45 seconds.
Angus Porter, Wooburn Park Sports Association Chairman, said: "We had 300 runners across the 10k, 3k and kids' races, and a great time was had by all.
"The sun shone all morning, and lasted until just after the prize giving, at which point the heavens opened!
"Congratulations to Matthew Davenport and Sarah Caulfield for winning the Men's and Ladies' 10k race.
"Thanks to everyone who ran or helped, and a special thank you to our race sponsors, Olive Communications."
The route of the popular race was slightly altered to take in some new facilities built thanks to funds raised by previous competitors.
The finish line was moved to a spot next to the new artificial cricket nets and the new pavilion which Wooburn Narkovians Cricket Club were able to build with proceeds from the 10k.
And as before, funds raised from the race will be ploughed back into developing sports facilities in the park and throughout the area.
