Marlow Bowls Club Finals Day Report 2013
An excellent day of bowling came to a fitting conclusion last week at Marlow Bowls Club as Richard Hyde fought off the combined challenges of his opponent Ray Jenks and worsening weather to snatch the Championship Singles title.
Richard was behind in the early part of the match as Ray Jenks stepped up a gear and began to look the likely winner but Richard somehow pulled himself back from the brink of defeat to land the title 21-20 as the rain fell from the murky clouds gathered above.
Hyde had earlier joined forces with father Tim, as they inched back from 4-14 down against Pat Ryan and Paul Simmons to pull off a 19-14 victory in the Championship Pairs. A third win came for Richard as he partnered Robert Blake to a 32-12 victory over Bill Pocock and Dawson Whitman in the Men’s Aussie Pairs competition.
In the ladies section it was a fabulous day for Rose Turner as she pulled off a record breaking 5 victories on Finals Day. She turned in a great performance to beat Jean Williams 21-11 in the Ladies Championship Singles this was followed up by wins in the Ladies Championship Pairs with Tanis Hudson, the Ladies Sets, and Ladies Handicap Pairs with Barbara Richardson and then joined up with Phil Wiggins and Don Isaacs to win the over 60’s Mixed Triples ( Harry Turner ).

Marlow Bowls Club 2013 season report
Marlow began this outdoor season with high hopes of success and whilst the results have been mixed the climax to the season came with the Finals Day matches two weeks ago.
The weather was not good first off but the summer sunshine eventually made its presence known and there followed some glorious warm days of outdoor bowling. Several successful social events were held and the Finals Day Dinner was an absolute treat thanks to the combined efforts of Ray and Ann Justice and their family.
The green had required some special attention over recent times and this effort will continue in earnest this winter and expectations are high that the green will show a significant improvement in 2014.
Marlow Bowls Club continues to thrive as one of the top outdoor bowling clubs in Bucks with a healthy membership and applications to join up are being received continuously throughout the year.
Short mat bowls starts up soon to take us through the winter and this takes place in the clubhouse at Pound Lane. Enrolment for short mat takes place this week Friday 27th September at 7.30pm at the Marlow BC clubhouse, the entrance is situated in the corner of the Court Gardens car park off Pound Lane.
