Wycombe is a town with such opportunity yet for decades now there have been some wacky decisions taken that have driven the town into the ground.

Nothing that needs doing seems to happen except large scale building projects that serve only to waste millions of pounds of money such as the building of the complex or the barmy plans for a new sports centre.

Thankfully the wackiest plan of all, namely the daft idea of ruining Booker with a large stadium, was stopped. Sadly many hundreds of thousands of pounds of money had been wasted on the scheme including a consultation which was open to the whole world rather then just those living in Wycombe.

If it hadn't been for so many people showing their outrage the ridiculous Booker Stadium plans would have gone ahead and an area of outstanding natural beauty would have been decimated.

Walk along Queen Victoria Road and you will see the magnificent old Library building rotting away then look down on the pavement in the High Street and the chewing gum stains are visible for all to see.

Soon the tired old Christmas lights will be wheeled out to blight our High Street for another year and cast a shadow of misery over all who have the misfortune to view them.

There are just so many things wrong in our town and my good self hasn't even touched on the problems in the Frogmoor area, the crazy recycling schemes using a plethora of bins or the unnecessary pedestrianisation of the High Street.

Let's face it something as simple as getting a working fountain on Frogmoor is too much for the powers that be and the concreted in remains of the last attempt are still visible as a reminder of their failure.

Wycombe is gripped with stagnation because of years of bad decisions which have sent our once prosperous town spiralling down the pan as fast as it could go.

I truly believe that to get things going again we need fresh thinking and a new forum to take control of the day to day running of the town.

Many others towns have an independent Town Council but sadly attempts to kick the ball rolling and empower such a body in Wycombe have failed time and time again.

Only last week an article appeared in the news section of this site entitled 'No new powers for High Wycombe Town Committee' announcing the snuffing out of the latest attempts to devolve power and decision making.

Sadly the Town Committee can currently only give advice and recommendations and has no real authority to make the decisions which could set the town back on the path to prosperity.

Is there any hope of seeing our town rise from the ashes and be great once again? My good self fears not while things carry on as they are.

Something needs to change very soon as we are getting closer to the abyss as every day goes by.

Wycombe needs some fresh thinking made by fresh people who care for the town.

We need visionaries, those who are prepared to speak out and natural born leaders to think up the ideas that will restore Wycombe as the economic powerhouse of South Bucks in fact we need people in control rather like good myself.

What do you think?
