10:00am Sunday 6th October 2013 in News
A TALENTED schoolgirl from Beaconsfield is gearing up for the chance of a lifetime after qualifying for the regional finals in a top nationwide singing contest.
Georgina Mills was given the thumbs up by judges in the preliminary rounds of Open Mic UK 2013, which auditioned thousands of budding singers and rappers across country.
The 14-year-old enrolled this year at the renowned Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead, which lists the likes of Kate Winslet among its famous alumni.
Georgina will now sing for her place in the grand final at the O2 in London when she faces judges again next week.
She said: "I’m really excited about the next round, I’m looking forward to it. I’ve got quite a quirky song I’m singing and quite a unique vintage look so I’m hoping that the judges will take notice of me.
"I'm not nervous yet, just excited. I love the energy I get from being on stage, it’s the same with dancing too, you can’t beat it. There’s quite a high standard in this competition though.
"I’ve always had aspirations to be in theatre or the musical arts. I only just started at Redroofs and I am loving it so far.
"I actually applied to Redroofs without my mum knowing and while I was supposed to be doing my homework, so I’m glad it paid off!"
Open Mic UK 2013 is the biggest music competition in the UK for singers and solo artists, searching for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material.
Previous finalists include X-Factor and Union J singer Jaymi Hensley and R&B singer Hatty Keane.
Georgina is competing in the under 16 category, and will take to the stage at the Beck Theatre in Hayes on October 6.
