Soil tested at allotments after anonymous tip off
SOIL testing will continue at allotments in Great Kingshill after an anonymous letter said illegal waste was dumped there.
At Hughenden Parish Council last night it was agreed a further £250 will go into testing the soil at the allotments behind the council's office in Great Kingshill.
Chairman Roger Beavil said: "Originally there was an anonymous correspondence which indicated there had been illegal and possible toxic waste dumped.
"We are trying to establish further information."
Cllr Phil Conran added: "Toxic is perhaps a slightly exaggerated phrase to use. We are looking at an illegal dumping of waste- we don't know what that is.
"There is no reason to suspect it is toxic."
He said investigations at this stage have not highlighted any concern.
Cllr Brian Swain said he would like to go and see the individuals concerned and assure them that everything is being done as it should be.
Cllr Nick Morris said: "The allotment holders still don't know anything. I think that is disappointing, considering the council knew about it in May but now we are in October."
