Councillors' dispute leads to heated response from public gallery
A DISPUTE between two councillors and a member of the public was discussed behind closed doors last night.
Hughenden Parish Council had an agenda item listed regarding whether disciplinary action should be instigated against a councillor in relation to activities that go against the council code of conduct.
But advice from Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Association of Local Councils said the issue should be discussed by a sub committee.
During the open discussion before it was moved to confidential items Chairman Roger Beavil said the issue related to complaints made by and between various councillors, as well as a member of the public.
Cllr Phil Conran said: "I want to offer an apology to the council.
"All the time this is now taking- it has obviously snowballed."
He said he is sorry the council has been drawn into what has turned into a "very nasty situation."
It was suggested a sub committee be formed to look at the various aspects.
Brian Swain said: "I just think there is too much interest now sitting around the table.
"I don't think we could do it, without an independent situation, because of the interest that there is."
Dennis Hackling said Cllr Swain has raised a valid point as they each have their own opinion about what happened.
During the discussion there were shouts from the public gallery, including comments about councillors.
Cllr Linda Derrick got up and left the meeting, although it is understood she is not one of the councillors involved in the dispute.
She returned to the meeting once it was decided it would be discussed in the confidential section.
