New crossing planned for Amersham station
A NEW zebra crossing could be installed outside Amersham station.
A grant to help pay for improvements to the busy commuter station has been obtained by Transport for Buckinghamshire, with a zebra crossing top of their agenda.
The existing traffic island immediately outside the station on Chiltern Avenue would be retained to minimise the amount of work that needs to be carried out and to cause minimal disruption to passengers.
Residents living near to the station have been asked for their views on the proposals in a consultation that runs until the end of the month.
Dan Elworthy, spokesman for Transport for Buckinghamshire, said: "We were awarded some money from the Local Sustainable Travel Fund, which has already paid for a new bus shelter at the station, and new bus information is to follow.
"Part of the allocation is to try to rationalise/formalise the crossing outside the station, and a zebra crossing is the proposal. The consultation this month will inform on whether this scheme can proceed and/or whether adjustments are required."
It was felt a signal controlled crossing would need to be sited east of the station and would not adequately address pedestrians' desire to walk directly forward after leaving the station and take the most direct route to Hill Avenue and the bus stops.
