Tomorrow's fire service strike action called off
THE national strike planned for Saturday evening by the Fire Brigades Union has been called off.
The five-hour strike – part of a dispute between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over pensions - was due to take place between 6.30pm and 11.30pm.
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service says it had a “robust contingency plan” in place to provide continuous cover in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
Chief Operating Officer Jason Thelwell said: "We are pleased the strike has been called off, and we hope negotiations between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government prove to be successful.
“Part of our preparation for the strike involved appealing to people to take extra care at home and on the roads. We hope everyone will continue to follow this common-sense advice and reduce the risk of being involved in an emergency at any time of the year.”
Members of the fire service carried out strike action lasting four hours last month, with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue personnel picketing outside Wycombe Fire Station.
