The Christmas rush is definitely starting in the town centre indeed my good self was extra busy today with all the extra work coming in.

How glad I was when it was time for the whistle to blow for lunch indeed I rushed outside into the street so fast that my good self forgot something very important.

You can imagine how shocked I was when your humble servant heard a distinctive voice calling my name.

Naturally my good self turned around to see a colleague standing in the doorway holding my lunch box firmly in her hand.

Soon yours truly was sitting on a bench in the grounds of the Parish Church tucking into my sandwiches.

Believe it or not it wasn't long before a friend came along and joined me to read their paper while I finished off my eats.

Folding the newspaper into half my friend passed it to me and there in front of me was a news article about a proposal to give children vitamin supplements due to a fear of the return of rickets.

For those who don't know rickets is a disease caused by a Vitamin D deficiency.

The vitamin is created naturally in the body by exposure to sunlight however these days many children stay indoors playing newfangled computer games and it seems their bodies are not functioning properly.

What does it say about modern society if we are considering giving our free vitamins to children with all the expense that brings simply because they are staying indoors.

Is this yet another example of modern technology causing health problems?

Why on earth should health care money be diverted from vital causes simply to give vitamins to children who are too lazy to go outside?

I say get the youngsters outdoors and let the free sunshine make them healthy again.

So many people take vitamin supplements these days and I often wonder if they do any good. If you can't get your nutriments from the food you eat and a healthy lifestyle then there must be something wrong.

Yours truly has never taken a vitamin supplement in my life and I have no intention of starting now.

If life is not self-sustaining there is something very wrong.

Of course when people do go outdoors in the sun they are told to cover up and put on sunscreen. Once again health and safety advice has taken priority and look what has happened.

What do you think?
