Road safety concerns lead to A40 speed limit consultation
SAFETY concerns over a busy stretch of road have led to a public consultation on lowering the speed limit.
Bucks County Council is asking whether the A40 between Beaconsfield and Holtspur should be restricted to 40mph rather than the current limit of 50.
Concern over the confusing road layout of the junction near Harvester at the top of White Hill is one of the reasons for calls to reduce the speed limit in the area.
And town councillors are also pressing BCC to install a crossing near the junction, with schoolchildren needing to cross the busy stretch to get to and from the bus stop.
As part of the consultation, residents will also be asked about a proposed 40mph limit for the adjoining stretch of the B4440 Wooburn Green Lane.
Janet Blake, BCC cabinet member for planning and transport, said: "I would urge anyone who might be affected by these proposed speed limit changes to look at the reasons why the limits are being proposed and then make their views known.
“We will look at all the feedback before a decision is made on whether these suggested limits go ahead."
The consultation can be completed by visiting http://tinyurl.com/o5g42uj with a closing date of December 6.
A map of the affected areas and further information are available at libraries and council offices in Beaconsfield, High Wycombe or Aylesbury.
Detailed information can be found at www.buckscc.gov.uk/haveyoursay where a response form can also be downloaded.
