Bourne End green nearer to being secured for community
A PIECE of green land used by children for playing took a step closer to being secured for the community after its future looked uncertain.
Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council agreed in April to take on the land at Cherwell Green in Bourne End from Red Kite Housing, after initially rejecting the plot of green space.
And a special meeting was called last week for members to approve the use of the official parish council seal to the final transfer document for the property.
Residents reacted angrily when councillors turned down the offer of the land between Evenlode Road and Cherwell Road earlier this year, with fears it may eventually be built on.
But after a dramatic u-turn, councillors agreed to take on the space and keep it for the parish.
With the final details with Red Kite still to be completed, the handover of the land is expected to take around a month.
Villagers have also applied to register the land with protected ‘village green’ status, with Bucks County Council due to make a ruling on the request.
