POP legend Freddie Mercury, rock star Alice Cooper and funny men Laurel and Hardy rubbed shoulders at a celebrity themed disco for cancer charities.

A group of seven mums from Marlow Bottom raised around £3,500 from a Star Party held at TJ O'Reillys club in the village last month.

About 130 guests in fancy dress went to the disco and the money raised will be split between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The Prostate Cancer Society.

One of the organisers, Deborah Krolikowski, of Hillfarm Road, Marlow, said: "I was diagnosed with breast cancer around this time four years ago.

"It was a really scary time. You don't expect anything like that to happen to you when you are in your 30s.

"It doesn't just affect just you either, it puts an enormous stress on your friends and family too."

Many companies in Marlow donated prizes for a silent auction, which raised £1,700. The top prizes included a video iPod donated by Gary Lowe, a signed Chelsea tracksuit, a meal for two at the Vanilla Pod, Don Lorenzo and Villa D'Este restaurants, plus vouchers for a Sunrise facial.

Landmark also donated two £50 clothes vouchers for the best dressed guest competition, won by Jo Longhurst as Cruella De Ville and Jamie McGlaughlin as Pete Doherty.

The seven mums, Leanda Robson, Helena Taylor, Babs Morgan, Kelly Clare, Heather Dols, Karen Lerner and Mrs Krolikowski would like to thank all their guests and everyone who supported the event.
