CHILDREN and teachers at a High Wycombe primary cheered on hearing their school had received a ‘good’ rating from government inspectors.

Headteacher Jennifer Gamble broke the news that Ash Hill Primary had received the ‘good’ ranking from Ofsted during an assembly last week.

It marks an improvement on the ‘satisfactory’ report it received in 2009.

Mrs Gamble said: “We are absolutely delighted with the report. It recognises the journey the school has been on and everything we have achieved.

“All the staff at Ash Hill work incredibly hard, and are absolutely committed to working together for the good of the children in our care.

“We are so lucky to have enthusiastic children who want to learn, as well as very supportive parents and governors.

“Our Ofsted success is all down to team work, and everyone in the school community should feel very proud of what we have achieved.

“Our job now is to work on the areas of future improvement further, as well as keep up all the good and excellent work already in place, so we can continue our journey to Outstanding.”

Inspectors visited the school in Herbert Road on October 8 and 9, and they ruled the teaching levels have been “systematically improved”.

Pupils make good progress to reach average standards in reading, writing and maths. The report added children feel safe, behave well and the school’s leaders are having a good impact and are well supported by governors.

The school did not get the highest rating of ‘outstanding’ because pupils’ achievements in writing – particularly in key stage one – is “not yet good”, while “not enough” of the teaching warrants top marks from inspectors.
