As another week draws to an end Christmas really is looming large on the horizon.

My Christmas cards were written a short while ago so with the beginning of December approaching it seemed like a good idea to get the cards on their merry way.

Last Wednesday my good self set off on my regular lunchtime walk with my bundle of hand written cards held tightly in one hand and my lunch box gripped firmly in the other.

Although yours truly does not send many cards nowadays it does take an awfully long time to write them.

For some reason modern ink takes so long to dry, blotting paper isn't what it used to be and the sealing wax on the envelope takes ages to set.

Naturally with something as important as my Christmas cards I like to ensure they get the best possible send off. No ordinary postbox will do, oh no, not for my cards.

As in previous years I made my way to the towns General Post Office to put my cards in their post box. After all that is the premier post box in the town.

Of course the General has moved recently from the magnificent Chilterns shopping centre to Castle Street opposite the war memorial.

Incidentally it's amazing how many people are unaware of the move and still turn up to the shopping centre only to see the shutters down on the now vacant premises.

So there I was striding out down the High Street on my way to post my cards. Upon arriving at the new Post Office in Castle Street your humble servant started looking around to find the post box.

After a few moments of searching my good self was still unable to find any traces of a bright red letter receptacle.

'Good gosh!' I exclaimed when it dawned upon me there was no post box.

Whose heard of a Post Office that doesn't have a post box close by? Well it seems we've got that very scenario in Wycombe!

Of course the cards have to be posted and I can't  be hum-bungled by the lack of a post box at the now seemingly deficient Post Office in Castle Street.

After eating a hearty lunch in the grounds of the Parish Church I started making my way back to work and nipped over to the former General in Queen Victoria Road to avail myself of the use of their box instead.

Once again Wycombe has been found to be deficient by the lack of basic amenities that you would expect to find in any town.

A Post Office without a post box close by is unheard of but we've got one in Wycombe....

What do you think?
