POLICE in Great Missenden will be moving into the village's library after plans to sell their current office were announced.

An agreement has been reached between Buckinghamshire County Council and Thames Valley Police that will see officers moving from their current base to the library, in High Street.

The Chiltern District's most senior officer said money from the sale of the current office - which he said was unfit for purpose - will be ploughed back into frontline policing.

The office and the house adjacent to it have been put up for sale.

Local Area Commander Supt Steve Hockin said: "The current building is no longer fit for modern policing purposes and its sale forms part of the Force’s strategy to reduce non staff costs, such as the estate, helping to preserve frontline policing.

"Planning permission has been granted and the work will soon commence, with a view to officers moving into the new office in March 2014.

"There will be no impact or changes to the level of staffing or the delivery of local policing."

Martin Phillips, Buckinghamshire County Council's cabinet member for Community Engagement, said: "The Thames Valley Police decision to move into Great Missenden Library is a win-win for the community.

"It maintains a police presence in Great Missenden, helps put the library on a more secure financial footing, and confirms our commitment to partnership working locally."
