Wycombe Sound takes to the airwaves on Monday
RADIO station Wycombe Sound takes to the airwaves next week.
The community radio station will be broadcasting live from its Eden shopping centre base on Monday at the start of a four week trial.
It was put together by four experienced broadcasters who met through hospital radio and if it proves a hit with listeners, the not-for-profit company behind the station will apply for a five-year licence.
Programme director and presenter Philippa Sawyer said they took inspiration from the success of Marlow FM.
She said: “We were looking at Marlow FM, they have a great station and while we will have a different feel, we are using them as an example.”
The team of about 50 volunteers, many of which have no prior experience of radio, have been busy learning the ropes this past week.
Miss Sawyer said: “There have been times when it felt like we were never going to be ready but we’re getting there.
“The team have taken to it like ducks to water – we have some people with a professional background in radio and others have no experience of it at all, but there’s a great atmosphere.
“We have received a lot of support, which we are delighted with and we are looking forward to everyone getting behind us from Monday.”
Wycombe Sound launches on 87.9FM at 8am with the Breakfast Show and its first guest, the Mayor of High Wycombe Cllr Trevor Snaith.
Live programming will be broadcast between 7am and midnight every weekday, and 7am to 10pm at the weekends.
