THE traditional Christmas tree on Tylers Green common was put in place this week with the help of schoolboys Max Dale and Freddie McCauley.

Max, aged six, and Freddie who's six on Christmas Day, attend Tylers Green First School.

They helped crane operator Paul Masterton and builder, Jimmy Hawes, start the 20 ton crane which manoeuvred the five metre tree, prepared by Roger Brill at Peterley Farm, into position.

The tree lights will be officially switched on at the Carols on the Common service in aid of Rennie Grove Hospice Care on December 19, starting at 7.45pm.

Afterwards villagers will go to the Penn and Tylers Green Sports and Social Club for mince pies, mulled wine and the presentation of the proceeds of this year's village fun run which will be shared between hospice charity and the Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Fund.
