AROUND 2000 people were left without power today after a widespread power cut in High Wycombe.
Energy provider Scottish and Southern Electricity confirmed that a “third party strike” affected the supply to around 2000 customers.
The BFP understands much of the town centre was left in darkness, including the Eden Centre, from around 1pm.
SSE spokesman Lisa Marchi said all but 60 of the affected customers were reconnected by 1.20pm, with the remainder set to be switched on by the end of the day.
Technicians used a technique known as ‘switching’ to reconnect the supply, which involves re-routing power from other areas of the network.
Though the company is unsure what exactly caused the power outage, they confirmed it was caused by a third party, such as building work, interfering with the supply.
SSE apologised to anyone affected during the blackout.
