APPROVAL has been granted for a large-scale leisure centre refurbishment, which includes an air dome for all-weather tennis.

Wycombe District Council approved plans for an extension to the David Lloyd Leisure Centre in Wooburn Green, which will also feature a new outdoor swimming pool.

The proposal also includes extra car parking and a two-storey extension, which the company says would match the design of the existing building and house a new spa area and fitness studio.

The new 9m high clear polythene tennis air dome aims to offer year-round access to three of the centre’s courts, and would be taken down during the summer months.

And one of the member-only leisure centre’s five tennis courts will be ripped up and replaced with an outdoor pool and terrace.

A new children’s play area is also due to be created as part of the plan, with extra parking for leisure centre users.

Planning permission includes a condition that the use of floodlights is restricted to the hours of 8am until 8pm to protect neighbouring residents.

Residents raised the issue of increased traffic in the area, but Bucks County Council did not identify a problem.
