A MAJOR leisure centre refurbishment is now underway, as the council urges residents to take advantage of the updated facilities and stay fit.

The Beaon Sports Centre in Beaconsfield is undergoing an overhaul after centre operators GLL announced the £200,000 project.

The upgrade, which will take around two months, will feature a state-of-the-art gym, upgraded changing rooms and new reception area.

South Bucks Ditrict Council, which owns the centre on Holtspur Way, hopes the cash injection will encourage more people to make a commitment to getting active.

Anita Cranmer, Portfolio Holder for Community says: "We are very pleased that GLL are upgrading the facilities at The Beacon Centre.

“This will greatly improve the centre and give local residents the opportunity to join a state of the art facility and increase their fitness and well-being."

The refurbishment will be completed in two stages, with the reception area and changing rooms finished first before work begins on the gym.

Although it will remain open during the works, the centre will operate with a slightly reduced capacity.

All members have been offered the opportunity to use facilities at neighbouring Chalfont Leisure Centre and the Chiltern Pools at no additional cost while the upgrade takes shape.

Memberships start from £29.95 per month or there is an option to pay at the door on an ad-hoc basis.

Discussions are currently ongoing to upgrade the play area and recreation ground adjacent to the Beacon Centre.

Beaconsfield Town Council has set up a working group to look at options to boost provision on the site, especially for young people and the elderly.
