THE Welsh Gymnastics Annual Awards Evening, held at Sophia Gardens, recognised and celebrated the achievements of exceptional individuals in the world of gymnastics in Wales.

The event, held on January 3, saw two of the Barry YMCA Gymnastics Team receive top awards.

Clinton Purnell took home the award for 'Men's artistic gymnast of the year', whilst resident national coach Pete Haysham received the award for 'Performance coach of the year'.

Both are deserved recognition for their hard work and achievements throughout 2013.

Clinton and Pete are currently training for the upcoming Welsh Championships in March, which then leads onto the British Championships.

At the recent northern European championships Clinton Purnell won three silver medals with Iwan Mepham also winning silver medal on high bar.

Iwan Mepham was a runner-up in senior gymnast category whilst both Josh Cook and LiamTanner were runners-up in most promising gymnast category.

Ffion Gardiner was also nominated in Schools Gymnast of the year category.
