Bucks Free Press: 24-hour gym to open in Eden this month 24-hour gym to open in Eden this month

A 24-HOUR gym opens in the Eden shopping centre this month.

Anytime Fitness opens its doors in February but it has not confirmed an official launch date as yet.

The 6,500 square foot, 24 hour gym will be located on the first floor of shopping centre, accessible via the orange car park lift lobby. All members will be able to park for free between 6pm and 8am.

Manager Chris Miller said: “We are very excited to be opening Anytime Fitness in High Wycombe.

“Whilst the franchise as a whole is the largest fitness franchise in the world, this club will be very focused on the local community.”

I would urge people to be very cautious of these "Anytime Fitness" franchises.

They offer a hundred memberships at a knockdown price, then another hundred at a slightly higher price, then another hundred etc and never actually announce an opening date.

One is supposedly opening in Loudwater too. Like all gyms, don't part with any money until you have visited the site and seen the equipment.

It is highly irresponsible of the BFP to market this company. Beware....

As a member, I've been advised Eden is opening on the 22nd Feb, Loudwater is in march and Marlow is in April.

My only concern is the amount of members they're trying to get to join the Eden one - it's not exactly a big space according to the plans.....!!

Hi FarleyUK, it's a joke, the Anytime Fitness mob will hand out a franchise to any muppet with a few tens of thousands in the bank.

Once the franchisee has stumped up the franchise fee they then earn it back with these advance memberships and make a tidy profit too, then disappear before the gym even opens.

In the meantime, the public get fobbed off about Feb 22 moving to Mar 22 etc and delays in equipment being delivered. Buch of t@ssers.

I would be wary too, My wife registed an interest online, she has been bombarded with calls since. Very pushy calls. The latest asking her to come to Eden. For what exactly??? In Friday's BFP the promotion had cg images not actual photos. Surely if it is opening on 28th Feb (as she was advised) there should be photos available? Every phone call tells her there are xx amount of reduced cost memberships available. the number doesnt get any lower. Buyer Beware as they say.

FarleyUK, don't you think it is a little strange that with a gym due to open Feb 22 that no equipment has yet been delivered?

We are talking about many tens of tonnes of machines and weights that don't just magic themselves into place the day before, they require weeks to install!

I suppose the proof for you will be when the Feb 22 date is moved.

Well, I don't know that, as I neither work for the company nor do I have access to the space where the gym will be, so can't comment about the lack of equipment.

I do agree that they seem quite pushy, but they're sales people so by nature they're that way.

Why don't you just call them Farley and ask them when the equipment is being delivered, I think the penny might finally drop!

Funnily enough, I just dropped them an email, and also asked on their FB page - they have confirmed they are still 100% on for opening on the 22nd Feb.

Not saying it won't change, but it'll be interesting to see what develops.

I'm just curious as to why you're so venomous against them? I'm assuming you've experienced this first hand previously?

Erm Farley, I suggested you asked whether any equipment had been delivered yet, NOT if they were sticking to the Feb 22 date!

The fact is that if no equipment has been delivered then there is no way they will be open till mid March.

Why not aske them?

No venom, just sick of Joe Public getting shafted by cowboys.

All your continuous hounding does is push people away to another gym. My friend and I just signed up with another because of the hounding you have done to another of my friends

have a look at the plan, i think the 6500sqft must include the empty rooms for classes, changing facilities, reception area etc and possibly "staff-only" back office areas.

Maybe 6500sqft is what they rented from Eden, but the floor space for Joe Public looks way less than that?
