A TOTTERIDGE man is jumping out of a plane to help a charity who has enabled his mum to continue working and looking after her family.

Matt Clark, 21, is doing a skydive on May 24 at Brackley Airfield in Northampton to raise money for South Bucks Hospice.

His mum, Tina, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in April 2001, aged 36.

In 2002, after an operation to remove the cancer and intense radio and chemotherapy, Tina started to visit the charity's Lymphoedema Clinic in Hazlemere, as her right leg started to swell.

Lymphoedema is a condition that occurs after damage is caused to the body’s lymphatic system – commonly after radio or chemotherapy.

Fluid collects at the limbs and sufferers find it difficult to remain comfortable and mobile.

Staff at the clinic would massage her legs and apply compression hosiery to stop the condition from worsening and she continues to use the clinic today.

Matt said: "My mum has continued to look after the family as well as go to work. Without the help of South Bucks Hospice Lymphoedema Clinic, my mum wouldn’t be as mobile as she is today and this is why I have decided to skydive to help raise funds for the hospice."
