THE main road to Stoke Mandeville hospital will be closed all weekend due to flooding.

Patients are being advised to only go to hospital in an emergency, and to find an alternative route to driving along Lower Road.

Transport for Buckinghamshire has said Lower Road will not be open to any traffic for the duration of the weekend.

The hospital itself will remain open and people with a pre-booked outpatient appointment have been urged to leave extra time for their journey.

Transport chiefs have been able to re-open some roads around the county but many other closures remain in place.

The slip roads leading from the M40 to the clockwise M25 have been closed due to flooding on the orbital motorway – which still has two lanes shut.

Pound Lane in Marlow, Windsor Hill in Wooburn Green and Mill Lane in Monks Risborough are among the roads in south Bucks that also remain closed to traffic.

TfB say there is a good supply of sandbags at their depots to help residents affected by floodwater, with eight teams on standby to cover weekend emergencies. Last night they received calls from residents in Hazlemere, Amersham, Longwick and George Green requesting sandbags.

Elsewhere, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Search and Rescue boat was called into action to come to the aid of a couple affected by floodwater in Ferry Lane, Medmenham, while firefighters also assessed rising waters in Gerrards Cross and Iver today.
