Requested judicial review over Wilton Park development in Beaconsfield
THE proposed development of Wilton Park in Beaconsfield has been challenged by a development company which had also set its sights on winning the lucrative contract.
Beaconsfield-based Jansons has requested a judicial review looking into the process of selling the area owned by the Ministry of Defence.
Amersham-based Inland Homes, who have been chosen as developers, had already worked with South Bucks District Council on early consultation plans for the 102-acre site.
Jansons development director, Michael Tomkins, said: “We have issues with the way the MOD have handled it and we want to take them to task on it.”
The proposed plans would see between 250 and 350 homes built as well as a new community hub. It could also result in a new relief road being built to alleviate traffic at London End.
At the time of the sale a Defence Infrastructure Organisation spokesperson said that all protocol had been followed.
The spokesperson said: “DIO took professional advice which confirmed Inland as a special purchaser within the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) definition and sought appropriate approvals to undertake an off-market sale.”
A crowd of nearly two hundred people gathered at a public meeting last night to discuss the development plans for Wilton Park, which went up for public consultation last month.
Mike Elliott, chairman of Beaconsfield Society and campaign group Wilton Park Watch informed the audience that Jansons, having contested the decision, were not attending the meeting as they felt it would be inappropriate.
SBDC is holding a consultation until February 28 for people to have their say on the planning brief, designed with Inland Homes, for what could go on the site.
The public meeting last night held by the Wilton Park Watch, being overseen by the Beaconsfield Society and the Beaconsfield Old Town Residents Association, gave residents a chance to voice their concerns about the development.
