PARISH councillors got their heart-rates pumping as they celebrated the opening of an outdoor gym in Hazlemere with a work out.
Hazlemere Parish Council chairman Cllr Brian Mapletoft and his deputy Cllr Natasha Howard tried out the £13,000 equipment last week.
The instillation followed a public consultation by the council last year.
Cllr Mapletoft said: “It’s terrific and it has gone down very well so far, and we hope that the members of the community will use it.”
Additional footpaths and matting could be put down around the facility in the Rose Avenue recreation ground in the coming months.
Wheelchair-bound residents have said they have found it difficult accessing the gym over damp grass.
Councillors believe the additional matting could also help keep the equipment in better condition for longer if users keep off the grass and mud.
Members agreed at the council’s full meeting earlier this month to look into the feasibility of having additional matting and a footpath installed.
The council is still working on other new schemes, including road traffic calming measures in Rose Avenue and the potential for a new skatepark.
