FIREFIGHTERS in Bucks had a hectic night after being called out over 70 times as strong winds brought down trees and scattered debris across the county.

The M40 has been badly hit, with a fallen tree closing a section northbound near junction 6.

Two lanes are also closed northbound between junction 4 for Handy Cross and junction 5 at Stokenchurch.

Yesterday evening, crews were called to Stokenchurch to remove a stable block roof that was in danger of blowing onto to the motorway.

Trees were brought down by the storm across the area, including one blocking the A40 in Beaconsfield at around midnight and another on Mill Road, Chalfont St Giles.

Homes were hit too, with crews attending a incident in Hedgerley Lane, Beaconsfield, where the branch of a fallen tree had come through the ceiling when it fell on a house.

A tree fell through a conservatory ceiling in Amersham and there was damage caused to a roof in Hillside Road, Marlow.

And several reports of precariously hanging cladding and masonry were received from across the county.

The damage comes as the latest storm in a relentless period of bad weather brought winds of up to 80mph across the south east.

Bucks Fire and Rescue, which is already dealing with a round-the-clock flooding operation in Marlow, is expected to be kept busy this morning as people wake up to damage caused by the storm.
