OVER 100 trees were blown down in south Bucks last night during the latest storm to batter the area.

County council emergency crews were called to deal with 130 fallen trees in total across the whole of the county, with widespread disruption to roads after winds reaching 55mph wreaked havoc.

Eight roads remained closed this morning because of surface water flooding, and two roads blocked by fallen trees were closed during the night.

The following roads in South Bucks remain closed as of lunchtime today:

  • Mill Lane, Monks Risborough
  • Ship Hill, Burnham
  • Pound Lane, Marlow
  • Market Place, Chalfont St Peter
  • Wharf Road, Bourne End
  • Cores End Road, Bourne End
  • Ferry Lane, Bourne End

At Cores End Road in Bourne End, RAF personnel, Transport for Bucks staff and the emergency services built a wall of 400 sandbags to keep rising floodwater at bay.

The road is expected to be closed for the weekend.

Bucks Fire and Rescue were inundated with calls overnight, responding to over 70 incidents.

The M40 was closed near junction 6 due to a fallen tree and two lanes were closed near High Wycombe when a tree fell there.

Four BCC adult social care stand-by teams are on duty throughout the weekend to respond to emergency calls from older, vulnerable and disabled people affected by the severe weather.

They will find them alternative accommodation if the need to evacuate owing to flooding or power cuts arises.
