New service guide to launch at Amersham health fair
8:00am Tuesday 18th February 2014 in News
HOT on the heels of a successful guide to services for Chesham, an Amersham version is being launched at a Health Fair next month.
The guide will list a vast range of services and activities available to people living in and around Amersham.
The free launch event being takes place at Amersham Free Church, Woodside Road, Amersham-on-the-Hill, on Wednesday, March 12 from 1pm to 4pm.
Cllr Peter Hudson, Chiltern District Council's Cabinet Member for Community, said: "Our first directory proved such a hit with Chesham residents, we immediately started working on this one.
"It's a very simple, easy to read guide, telling people exactly what's happening in their community, and signposts them to services and social clubs in their area. It's primarily aimed at our older residents - but it's really for everyone. "The directory is free, is available from the Council Offices in Amersham, local libraries and online if people want to download it."
The aim of the health fair will give residents the chance to find out about the services available to them locally, including:
- Personal safety/home safety
- Leisure and social activities available in the area
- Trading Standards
- Home from Hospital Service
- Affordable Warmth
- Citizens Advice Bureau Adult learning
- Red Cross Home from Hospital Service, and much more besides.
As well as the opportunity to have a free Mini Health Check, guest speaker, Dr Raj Thakkar (GP and Clinical Commissioning Director) will be there to talk about stroke; how you might prevent it, what can put you at risk, how it happens – and what to look for.
Everyone who attends will be given a free Guide to Services, available to people living in and around Amersham.
The Health Fair is free, there's no need to book - people can just turn up, have a cuppa and discover exactly what is on offer on their doorstep.
The event is supported by Chiltern District Council, the NHS Chiltern Clinical Commissioning Group and Bucks County Council.
