A WYCOMBE man has been jailed for five months for a speeding ticket scam.
Wasim Yasin of Cumbrian Way, High Wycombe was convicted of four counts of making false statements and one count of dangerous driving at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday.
He was sentenced to five months imprisonment for each count - 25 months in total - to run concurrently.
The 22-year-old was also banned from driving for 12 months.
Thames Valley Police said Yasin had been detected speeding by cameras in the High Wycombe area on seven occasions.
The vehicles were not registered to Yasin and, when he was identified by officers, he claimed a fictitious person was behind the wheel.
PC Carl Lewis said: “Yasin thought he could speed with impunity because the vehicles were not registered to him and then, when identified by police, he made a concerted effort to evade the penalties for speeding.
“He started a lie, nominating a fictitious person and maintained that lie until the late stages of the Crown Court process.
“These custodial sentences are a real deterrent to others who insist on trying to evade speeding tickets.”
