THE QUEEN’S swan marker will give an insight into his unusual role when he holds a talk about the tradition next week.
David Barber, who represents the Queen during the annual Swan Upping on the River Thames, will talk visitors through its history and practice.
Mr Barber was made a member of the Royal Victorian Order in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list and is due to receive the honour at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace next month.
Swan Upping dates back to the 12th century, and involves rounding up and marking every mute swan, which historically remain the property of the reigning British Monarch.
The talk at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley takes place on March 1, with tickets costing £7.
