Appeal date set for Marlow polo pitch plans
AN APPEAL date has been set for the original set of plans to install polo pitches along a narrow country lane.
The controversial proposal to create a practice facility at Low Grounds Farm, off Harleyford Lane in Marlow was rejected by Wycombe District Council last August.
Planning Committee members ruled the development would be detrimental to the convenience and public amenity enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and horse-riders along the restricted byway.
But applicants Harleyford Properties appealed to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate over the decision, with a hearing date set for April 1.
A fresh application for the polo pitches was submitted to WDC late last year, with the decision deferred at a planning meeting last week while alternative access issues are investigated.
Neighbouring residents and organisations using the popular rural spot claim the influx of traffic from any new development will be dangerous and will restrict public use of the lane.
But the applicants claim the project will create less traffic than using the site for farming purposes.
The public inquiry hearing will take place in Committee Room 1 at WDC offices on Queen Victoria Road at 10am.
