Bucks County Council suspend pothole repairs

Bucks Free Press: Pothole repairs suspended Pothole repairs suspended

POTHOLE repairs had to be temporarily suspended across the county for two weeks, as the local authorities concentrated their efforts on flood damaged areas.

Bucks County Council made the decision to ensure that Transport for Bucks put all their efforts into fixing any problems caused by the flooding and supended their pothole policy.

Bucks County Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport, Janet Blake, said: “We’re not pretending our roads are perfect – far from it – and it’s a near endless task to repair them, but we are doing our best.

“The floods have caused some significant damage, and we need to work together, carrying out our inspections and taking reports from road users in order to tackle the worst first.”

In January, TfB repaired 4,431 potholes, before focusing solely on flooding issues during this month, of which 2,381 were in need of urgent repair.

A TfB spokesman said: "We suspended the pothole policy from February 7 - 21,  because of the flooding issues, meaning that we could not hit our policy deadlines of repairing category 1 potholes by the next working day during this time.

"From the 22nd February we picked up our work on potholes, increasing the number of crews going out and filling defects reported by the public."

TfB is now undertaking a programme of inspection and repairs to fix the water damaged roads and are looking at ways in which extra resources can be brought in to help.

If you want to report a pothole or road related problem you can get in touch with TfB by calling 0845 230 2882 or by visiting: www.bucskcc.gov.uk/telltfb

This is another diversion tactic to evade responsibilities. It clearly indicates that this useless council is unable to cope with more than one thing at a time. The roads have been deteriorating for at least 4 years now and no extra resource being thrown at "We are working on it" scheme. (The lies about extra £10 million are baseless gimmicks drilled in by WDC, because if that money did materialise then where are the results?)
I am all for the relief work for the flood hit victims, but would it not be wise to say that Marlovians are only going to obstruct, moan, and basically oppose any new measure or development to anything because their precious town will likely to attract outsiders ! They have so far opposed every single change to their town and hold the rest of the county to ransom because nothing can ever be built or get improvement work done due to their arrogant and protectionist thinking.
It is absurd that the WDC has so far failed to improve any road under their pledge and now they are quitting the work entirely. Martin Titt is out still chasing that useless award for his failures and to give us more of the same. By halting the work completely, the council tax and its increases must also be reduced ! Otherwise this is totally unfair.

Not sure i would actually say they have fixed any potholes.. the few "Repairs" that i have seen have consisted of just pouring some kind of tar mixture into the pothole, and even then they haven't used enough to actually fill the hole.. Anyone else notice it is the same potholes opening up every year as well due to the cowboy workmanship and lack of overbanding?

If only the BCC workers would report the holes they see on their way to work, we wouldn't need to!
and as sidthesexist mentions... so much money STILL wasted on shoddy repairs after all the revisits... don't any of the repairs have a guarantee on them?
I hate to think about the amount wasted instead of doing the job right in the first place.

Understatement of the century! I travel all over the UK and Bucks roads are by far the worse I come across!

Where exactly have these 4,431 potholes been repaired? Roads that are used by one car a day? Try looking at the A40 between High Wycombe and West Wycombe, it iis a slalom to avoid holes and road damage!

Some idiot has gone along Finings Road in Lane End and arrowed up hundreds of potholes either side of the road and put up failed road surface notices. Number one-when will they be repaired? Number 2-no-one is taking any notice of them. Most people driving along that stretch seem to have had the portion of their brains that measure speed plus their eyesight removed. Apparently 40 mph means 60 in Lane End speak. I think the signs should read 'neglected road surface'!

(With apologies to Chumbawumba)

25 miles ago I left the nation's capital
And spend time in motorway misery
Then I crossed the border, into Buckinghamshire and thought to myself
I must have gone into another country
This county is a mess, council services are remiss
And the politicians and the liars, are all over the press
Saying how we've never had it better so shut up you lot

You might as well be driving on the MOON.

That "idiot" has made it possible for any driver to see the danger in plenty of time, and take avoiding action, for which he/she should receive some gratitude, not sneers.
Those ignoring the "idiot's" efforts are the real idiots.
