RESIDENTS can now order a taxi via a handy smartphone application created by a former Buckinghamshire University student.

Dan Grech, 25, founder of High Wycombe-based Zing Apps, launched the High Wycombe Taxis app on iOS and Google Play stores last month.

The app, powered by Royal Cars and Crown Cars, means residents can now order a taxi with a few taps on their smartphones.

Mr Grech was inspired by a similar app Londoners can use and the tools he learnt on BNU’s music management and marketing course.

He said: “I work in London and do this on the side at the moment, but being from High Wycombe I wanted to launch the first app here.

“There has been a huge spike in convenience apps, such as ordering a takeaway, and now taxis. I often struggle for a signal to make a call for a taxi but I can tap the app and it’s sorted.”

And taxis could be the tip of the iceberg for Mr Grench who is also working on restaurant and council phone programmes.

He said: “You could take a photo of graffiti, tag where it is and send it to the council, for example, I’d really like to work with the councils.”

Visit www.zingapps.co.uk or search ‘High Wycombe Taxis’ on the various app stores to download.

Wouldn't be too bad if Crown/Royal turned up when booked up to an hour ahead of time, that's was my experience time and time again, forcing me to use another firm.

Unfortunately I can't agree with this, every time I call Royals on 513513 they answer straight away and I have a cab within 10mins. The most I've waited was like 15 and that is when I called for a cab to Daws Hill lane at 8.20am. So they still managed to get to me within 15mins through school traffic.... I have also heard that they now have the largest fleet of cars so that's probably why there able to be quicker and reliable.

Interesting, will be giving this a shot. There are so many times I've been out in Bucks and needed to call a cab to get home - and to be honest I haven't got time to be ringing around various companies to see who can get to me the quickest. I just want one stop shop and reasonable price. Also nice to hear about local entrepreneurs. Well done Mr Grech!

I have used many taxi companies in High Wycombe and found the worst have got be the ones on the High St, absolute con artists. I usually walk up to Neil's and pay half the fare. The young lads on the desk at Neil's are always very welcoming as are the drivers.

I would like to say Paddy is not a controller just a loyal customer as we all our. Royal Cars have always given me good prices and service and they are always polite on the phone. In my honest opinion they dont need to boost themselves up as there service does it for them.

I can confirm I do not work for Royals, If you know me then you would know that I do not work there and never have. It is nice to see that people know who I am but don't know where I work.
