THIS is the design residents have chosen to be converted into a Mayoral Arch in High Wycombe town centre.

More than 1,000 people voted in the competition between Bucks New University students who were vying for the design rights to the arch.

The eye-catching multi-coloured structure with ribbon netting, surrounded by a chain mail fence, will be positioned next to the Guildhall and bridge the High Street for two weeks next month.

Residents will be invited to donate cash or a can of food in return for leaving a message on a remembrance wall for loved ones lost, linking the Mayor’s charities, the One Can Trust and the Child Bereavement Fund.

Mayor Trevor Snaith said: "I am so pleased that the public responded in such great numbers to say which designs most appealed to them for the Mayoral Arch and we're looking forward to seeing it become a reality.

"We are now looking for sponsors and hope that companies and individuals will relish the opportunity to have their name associated with a hugely worthwhile project I feel will put High Wycombe on the map."

The unveiling of the arch will take place on April 5 during a mayoral procession through the town.

Other plans include an exhibition to capture how the concept came together, including footage from the design phase.

BA (Hons) Product Design, BA (Hons) Spatial Design, and HNC Mechanical Engineering students drew up the designs.

The winning design was by students Chris Edwards, George Hill, Jaclyn Marfo, Jack Mulford, Daisy Munns, Shaz Rafique, and Charlie Yerrell.

BNU students will also help out with the organisation of the procession.

Wycombe District Council has started the sponsorship of the Mayoral Arch through the contribution of a community grant.
