A MAN was arrested and faces deportation from the UK following an immigration enforcement raid on a High Wycombe sweet shop.

Officers arrested a 34-year-old from the Al-Madina Sweet Centre in Green Street at 1.35pm yesterday following a tip off.

The Pakistani man had overstayed his visa and was detained pending removal from the country, Home Office immigration officers said.

The business could face a penalty of up to £10,000 unless it can provide proof the correct right-to-work checks were made.

Paul Smith, head of the Thames Valley & Surrey Office Immigration Enforcement team, said: “We are working hard to track down people breaking the UK’s immigration laws.

“Illegal working encourages illegal immigration and we are determined to tackle it.

"Operations like this are carried out regularly across the Thames Valley and information from the public can be a huge help in our work.”

Anyone who suspects immigration abuse are urged to visit www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Businesses are also urged to visit the website to ensure they are taking the appropriate steps to avoid employing illegal workers.
